In the city of Cartagena, in southern Spain, many years ago people built residential areas and houses around the old cathedral, which had stood there since the 13th century.

😍And in 1988, the ruins of ancient buildings were discovered by chance under this cathedral, destroyed during the Civil War. 😱
Archaeological excavations were carried out for several years, and an entire Roman amphitheater, built between the 10th and 1st centuries BC, was discovered under ordinary houses. The audience room was carved right into the rock, and the theater could accommodate up to 6 thousand people.

Excavations were carried out for several years and ended in 2003, and five years later a museum was opened, which displays exhibits found in this theater.🏺

This is how, after being hidden from human eyes for many centuries, the ancient Roman forum found a second life and became the jewel in the crown of Cartagena.👑
