In the small town of Viyena, not far from Alicante, a majestic castle stands as an indestructible fortress, the former border between Castile and the kingdom of Aragon.

⚔The architecture of the structure is very interesting and complex: double walls and fortifications surround the castle along the entire perimeter, which is made in the shape of a rectangle. The outer wall consists of 12 towers. Another amazing fact is that the thickness of these walls is approximately 4 meters.

🏰The facade of the castle mixes features of Moorish and Christian architecture. For example, on the southwestern side of the building there is a 27-meter high Honor Tower, consisting of four levels. The first two levels were built under Moorish rule, the next two - under Christian rule.

Through the main entrance you enter the square hall of the tower, the vaults of which are made in the shape of a horseshoe and converge in the center like a star dome. The third and fourth vaults have flat ceilings and are connected by a steep staircase, which both leads to the roof and is an observation deck.😍

In 1931, the Castle of Vilen de Atalaya was declared a national historical monument. At the same time, major restoration work began, thanks to which we can now observe it in almost its original form.🙏🏻
