One evening, and you're back in the days of the Second Punic War: Cartagena becomes a battlefield between Roman legionaries and Carthaginian warriors.

The Carthaginians and Romans festival is a whole series of historical re-enactments. Participants in finely crafted costumes set up a large military camp, and the city streets are decorated with Carthaginian antiquities.

You'll watch the Great Battle for Qart Hadasht by the old city wall: hundreds of soldiers in authentic armour, catapults, battering rams and pyrotechnics. The Romans break through the defences, and General Mago signs the surrender.

The finale is the Victory Parade. To the roll of drums and the cheers of the crowd, the legionaries march their Carthaginian prisoners right through the city centre.
