Two days in a real medieval fairy tale: houses above a gorge, stone giants and a pink town where time seems to stand still.

Cuenca is famous for its "hanging" houses perched over a gorge. This UNESCO-protected open-air museum town has old lanes that keep the legends of Isabella of Castile, and viewpoints that take your breath away. Nearby are the Stone Garden in the Ciudad Encantada nature reserve and the views from Ventano del Diablo.

Teruel sits at 915 m and is renowned for its UNESCO-listed Mudéjar architecture. It is home to the story of the "Lovers of Teruel", which Spaniards believe inspired Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

In Albarracín, narrow winding lanes carry you back to a distant past. Almost every house has its own legend, and your guide will tell it.

Itinerary

Day 1

Cuenca and Ciudad Encantada

Departure from Torrevieja at 07:00 and from Alicante bus station at 08:00.

Cuenca, famous for its "hanging" houses, is a UNESCO-protected open-air museum town. A walk through old lanes that keep the legends of Isabella of Castile, plus the town's viewpoints.

Stone Garden and Ventano del Diablo

Next comes the Stone Garden in the Ciudad Encantada national reserve, with its fantastic shapes carved by nature from rock, and the Ventano del Diablo viewpoints. In the evening, hotel check-in and dinner.

Day 2

Teruel and Albarracín

Breakfast at the hotel. A walk around Teruel, a town with centuries of history. It lies high above sea level (915 m) and belongs to the region of Aragon. If you wish, you can visit the mausoleum with the tombs of the "Lovers of Teruel": Spaniards believe Shakespeare based Romeo and Juliet on this true story.

Pink Albarracín

Then on to the pink town of Albarracín, where time seems to have stood still. Almost every building holds its own story and legend, which your guide will share. Midway through the route you can book lunch at a restaurant with a tasting of local dishes; Teruel is famous for its ham. Back in Torrevieja at 20:00.

Pickup details

Departure on day one: from Torrevieja at 07:00, from Alicante at 08:00 from the bus station. Return to Torrevieja on day two at 20:00.

In Torrevieja, we pick you up from home and drop you back at your address. Please enter your address in the additional information when booking your ticket.

Surcharge for addresses outside Torrevieja (approximate):

  • La Mata, Punta Prima, Torreta: €10 per address (round trip)
  • La Zenia, Cabo Roig: €15
  • Campoamor, Rojales, Doña Pepa, Quesada, Villamartín: €20 per address (round trip)

Pick-up within Torrevieja is free. For addresses outside Torrevieja the surcharge is mandatory and is paid to the driver in cash when you board. We'll confirm the exact amount when you book: it depends on your address and the route.
