One day, the whole Costa Blanca: Alicante's palms, the underground halls of Canelobre, chocolate and tiny Guadalest perched on a rock.

First comes Alicante, with its Palm Park and the Volvo Ocean Race round-the-world museum. Then the underground halls of the Canelobre Caves and a sweet stop at the Perez chocolate factory, with a tasting.

The jewel of the day is Guadalest. Around 250 people live in this little town, and the only way in is through a cleft in the mountain. On top of the rock stands an eleventh-century castle made up of two fortresses, plus a viewpoint overlooking the mountains, the valley and an emerald lake.

Guadalest has more than 10 museums, from micro-miniatures and micro-giants to a museum of salt and pepper shakers with over 20 thousand pieces.
